The Center on Law and Security was pleased to host President (ret.) Dorit Beinisch, of the Supreme Court of Israel and Dan Meridor, a former Justice Minister and Minister of Intelligence and Atomic Energy in Israel on October 24, 2013.

Justice Beinisch and Minister. Meridor discussed the system of intelligence oversight in Israel, and in particular focused on the role of the courts in conducting such oversight.  In this context, they discussed the role of surveillance in conducting present day military operations, and the need for strong oversight to create a culture where information gathered by surveillance is secured. The discussion was followed by a conversation that highlighted the importance of defining and understanding privacy in the context of developments in the 21st century. Justice Beinisch is a Fellow at the Center and Law School this Fall.
