The Center on Law and Security is organized around three broad program areas that, together, enable it to offer both insights and solutions to the new challenges of both domestic and global law and security.
The Center’s programs focus on three areas:
- Domestic Security Program examines and recommends national security policy related to constitutional issues, government reform, emergency powers and the relationship between the public and private sectors in the wake of 9/11. Through its public and private forums, the Center has featured a wide range of distinguished journalists, academics and legal scholars including: Viet Dinh, Joshua Dratel, Alice Fisher, Tim Golden, Anthony Lewis, Seymour Hersh, Joe Bianco, Judge Kenneth Karas, Sidney Blumenthal, John Dean, Ted Sorensen, Larry Wright, Roger Cressey, Daniel Benjamin, Ruth Wedgwood, Steven Simon and Peter Bergen.
- Global Law and Security Program convenes world leaders, practitioners and experts in the field of security to define the issues and enhance the effectiveness of global counterterrorism through the use of law. The flagship project of the program is the Center’s annual conference, “Prosecuting Terrorism: The Global Challenge.” Past Attendees have included: Judge Jean-Louis Bruguiére, Judge Armando Spataro, Gijs de Vries, Paul Clement, J. Cofer Black, Richard Churchouse, Judge Baltasar Garzón, Javier Ruperez and Peter Clarke among many others.
